Rev. Michael Meyer-Veen grew up in Pentwater, Michigan and attended Hope College, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Religion, minoring in Creative Writing in 1999.
Mike and Sherri met during college where they were both heavily involved in youth and college ministries at First Reformed Church of Zeeland, with Veritas Christian Fellowship, and on Residential Life staff at Hope College. Their close friendship grew into a loving life partnership and they were married in December of 1998.
Sherri and Mike began their theological studies at Western Theological Seminary and completed their studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, earning Master’s of Divinity degrees with Cross-Cultural Studies emphasis in 2002. While living in Southern California, they served Faith Reformed Church of Norwalk and were chaplains for a time at Pomona Valley Hospital.
Mike and Sherri were called to the Schoharie Reformed Church in 2004. “We fell in love with the people of Schoharie and knew this was where God wanted us to be. While small village ministry in Upstate New York is very different from where we thought we would end up, we know it has been God’s leading and we couldn’t be happier. “
Sherri and Mike co-pastor together, splitting pastoral responsibilities. Both share the pulpit and pastoral calling. Mike takes more leadership in worship planning and working with the consistory. Sherri takes more leadership in visioning activities, such as the Church on Grow program and the Day Camp Program planning team. Sherri also serves as the Project Manager for the Capital Region Theological Center. Both are active in the Reformed Church in America, including at the classis and regional synod levels.
Mike and Sherri are the proud parents of two young children, a dog, and a cat. Sherri enjoys gardening and playing a variety of sports when she has the opportunity. Mike enjoys music, art, going to the movies, all kinds of sports, and the Wii!
